Two Middle School teams recently competed in the regional Destination Imagination tournament at Haltom High School.

The 7th and 8th-grade team composed of Rachael Bigham, Sana Kohli, and Caitlin Reddig placed 3rd overall for their Improv challenge and placed 1st for their instant challenge. The 6th-grade team of Sohan Masters, Sni Walls, Adeline Fields, Rachel Trimble, Rileigh Robinson, Nick Abram, and Bennett Reddig placed 1st overall for their scientific challenge and will advance to the State Tournament in Lubbock in April, where approximately 500 teams from all over the state will be competing.

Destination Imagination seeks to teach students about the creative process, from imagination to innovation. Through their participation, students improve in critical thinking and collaboration, learn how to design and manage a project, and gain skills that will serve them well in the 21st century workforce.

In improv challenges, teams receive topics and produce skits on the spot, and instant challenges require teams to think on their feet to produce a solution to a problem in just five to eight minutes. Scientific challenges incorporate a secret mission with disguised characters and cryptography.

Congratulations to all the Oakridge competitors, and good luck to our 6th grade team at State!
