Kathy Bumgardner, known as "Mrs. B" to her young fans, visited The Oakridge School Wednesday, Sept. 26, and provided students and teachers with a literacy experience they will never forget.
Mrs. Bumgardner is a national literacy consultant, author, speaker, literacy tool creator, former educator, and literacy coach. More notably, she is a contributing author for the "Wonders" Language Arts curriculum used at Oakridge in grades K-4. She read to kindergarten students and left them amazed at the way a story could engage their senses.
Students were motivated to read carefully and critically, while also trying to envision the author's words in their heads. Mrs. Bumgardner incorporated student teaching, collaborative partner groups, and had the students on the edge of their seats. Teachers said the visit was a treat for them, as well, because they learned from Mrs. Bumgardner's seasoned expertise and energetic modeling.
