Hundreds of Oakridge Owl families flooded onto campus for a day and night full of Homecoming activities. Friday, Oct. 19 began with a parade that included students from the Early Childhood Center, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School, as well as faculty and staff. Although the skies were cloudy and a little bit of rain fell, school spirit was high and on full display.
The theme of this year's Homecoming, "There's No Place Like Home," carried through the entire week with special dress days. On Tuesday, students dressed for Tin Man Day, wearing red and silver. Some even used tin foil to create cone-shaped hats. Wednesday was Lions & Tigers & Bears, Oh My! Day, with students dressing in animal print or clothing associated with a sports team named for an animal. Thursday was Twister Day, which allowed students to wear mismatched clothes and silly socks. Students dressed in Oakridge spirit wear for Friday. Following Friday morning's parade, MS and US students enjoyed a fun pep rally that included a short skit based on The Wizard of Oz.
The week of celebrations concluded with the football game against the Austin Saints, food, fun, and a spectacular fireworks show. Although the Saints won 19-15, and the rain fell sporadically throughout the evening, current families and alumni enjoyed connecting and cheering on Oakridge. Most agreed that there really is no place like home.
