During the Holiday Season, US Art Club members and art students become very busy elves in the FAC, plying their collective talents towards the benefit of those less fortunate than themselves. As a community service venture, US Art Club members buy stuffed animals from Kohl’s, and then they redistribute the treasures to Mission Arlington just before Winter Break. The officers of the club, Ryan Fitzgerald and Sarah Schoening, Co-Presidents, Lauren Buck, Vice-President, Jonathan Hatley, Secretary, Funmi Solano, Treasurer and Sydney Johnson, photographer, will gather the club’s contributions and deliver the items to Mission Arlington in time for the holidays.
In conjunction with this community service donation activity, US Art Students create large format drawings of the stuffed animals using a variety of means, such as creating an image with their Lenovo devices and then rendering it with different mediums, such as Sanguine and Sepia, Cray-pas, Pastels, and Charcoal. The artwork pictured behind the Art Club Officers, will then be on display in the Teaching Gallery of the John P. Flavin FAC during the month of December for everyone to enjoy. The drawings are later incorporated into the students’ formal art portfolio for the college admission process, or for AP Assessment by the College Board for college credit.
