Fifth grade student Jackson Demond correctly answered “Philadelphia” to win this year’s Geography Bee at The Oakridge School. The question was “What major U.S. city is located at the confluence of the Schuylkill and Delaware Rivers?”
The Fine Arts Performance Hall was filled with supportive students, parents, faculty and staff Wednesday, Jan. 22, when Demond won. In all, eight middle school students competed. In the end, Demond faced off with seventh grade student Jackson Graham to claim this year’s title. Graham was the school’s winner last year.
Middle School History Teacher, Mr. Robby Koch, served as the pronouncer for this year's GeoBee. Judges included teachers Mrs. Ashley Read, Mr. Clint Allen, and Mr. William Ray.
The National Geographic GeoBee takes place May 19-22 at the National Geographic Society Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Visit www.nationalgeographic.org/bee for more information.
